that time... avery wore daddy's sweatshirt

Being a military child is tough.  I can't imagine what my daughter is going through, but I will say this:  she's a real trooper.  She doesn't complain about the distance, she doesn't whine about the time apart (ok, not too much), and she tries to be a great military kid, even when she doesn't think anyone understands.

Her friends have a hard time understanding why her daddy is away, why she lives here, and its hard for her to talk about it.

So this past weekend, she was helping me put laundry away and she went into Kevin's closet.  That's when she saw his sweatshirt - the one she loves to wear when he's away.  It was hanging up, waiting for her.

She quickly put it on and then smelled it.  "It smells like daddy."  And she felt much more secure, while wearing that sweatshirt.  As if daddy was wrapping his arms around her in a hug.

I can't imagine what she is going through, not having her daddy with her every night.  Giving her hugs and kisses every night before bed. Picking on her, poking at her, only in the way that daddy does.

Her daddy is her life. Despite the distance, she still has him, even if its in the form of a sweatshirt.
